Roadblocks

I have recently gained some traction while searching for a job. This comes almost a month and a half after doing some contract work. I failed to put this on my resume initially, but once this bit of experience made it on there I started to hear back from jobs I had applied to.

One of the jobs was a React position I applied to fresh out of my program, as my capstone relied on React native I was fairly confident in my abilities to create a React app and pass around state and props. However, my contract work has me taking a deep dive into Ruby on Rails which has taken up most of my time in terms of learning things.

This job reached out requiring me to complete a take-home test to be sure I know how to navigate through a React app. I figured diving in and letting the docs save me once I hit a roadblock I would be okay to put some kind of dent in this test. This was not as easy of a task as I thought.

What I have learned, is that when you spend time wrestling with a problem you gain a much better understanding of what you are trying to deal with. You also significantly lower the chances of you struggling with that problem again.

My advice to myself and others is to take some time to wrestle with the issue if you have it. Asking a question will get you to the solution much quicker, but with this advice, I have 4 or 5 issues that I will never get tripped up on again.
